Emerging Innovation Scholars (BIG Ideas), launched by The University of Alabama Honors College in collaboration with Innovate Alabama, is, by design, an entry-level program that encourages students who have limited or no competition experience to develop their ideas, transform their thinking and address societal problems through creativity and ingenuity. Advising, mentoring, workshops, and assistance are integral parts of the program, along with funding and recognition.

Learn more →The HBCU Innovation Experience, a collaboration between The Alabama Collective and Innovate Alabama, offers a multi-phased approach to Expose, Educate, Engage and Empower HBCU students and faculty. Through cutting-edge educational skill development training, on coding, app development, entrepreneurship, business management and innovation essentials the program ensures HBCU students possess the critical skills necessary for success. In addition, this program fosters community building through virtual workshops, networking engagement activities, internships and campus events; creating spaces for collaboration and idea exchange with hackathons, pitch competitions and roundtables which serve as catalysts for talent to showcase their prowess and address real-world problems.
Learn more →This is a small business education program focused on people… their dreams, ideas, and business interests. The program includes a six-session educational series held in the evenings after work. These sessions introduce basic tools, concepts, and principles relevant to launching and growing a successful business when one has little to no resources or background. Although the program is targeted towards disadvantaged entrepreneurs or those who have faced one or more difficult circumstances, it is broadly open to anyone trying to start or grow a business. Participants completing the entire program will be given priority consideration for future initiatives such as mentorship, student consulting, and other entrepreneurial programs.

Participants learn from subject matter experts on topics such as customer discovery, market research, legal, financial and business planning.

Our goals are to create a space for students, faculty, and recent graduates to cultivate and develop their entrepreneurial research, skills, and techniques. Here, new ideas can be tested, evaluated, and potentially turned into successful business ideas.
